Disco Burger… Va Bene

22 August 2009 No Comment

va-bene-san-sebastian copyWe’ve heard for months about what a great place San Sebastian is to eat, but most of the folks I heard that from don’t have kids and tend towards more, let’s say, “gourmet” experiences.  We’ve had our fair share of those, but tonight we ate at Va Bene, also known as “Disco Burger,” on San Sebastian’s “Boulevard.” These people serve great burgers which come in a wide variety of choices, including singles and doubles. Ask them to go easy on the mayonnaise, or just use a knife and fork. Good food, fast (very fast) service. And quite reasonable.  Lots of families, both local and touristica. Leslie says this place is like Taylor’s Automatic at the old ferry terminal building in San Francisco.

The place is mobbed from the beginning of dinner time, around 8:00, until 10:30, but the wait is short because they serve so fast and people don’t linger. (Well, we do, but many don’t.) This photo was taken after the crowds cleared out. We were deeply engaged in a game of “geography,” where the next player names a location that begins with the letter that the previous player’s location ended with. (“K’s” get particularly hard after a while.)
