San Sebastian’s Perfect Beach

22 August 2009 3 Comments

San-Sebastian-Concha-BlancaPeople say that San Sebastian’s Playa de la Concha, or Concha Blanca is the best beach in Spain, perhaps the best beach in Europe.  They always show photographs of a wide, empty expanse of beach, glistening with water only recently receded. I’ve got some of those pix as well, but here is what it really looks like… after 1/2 the people have gone home for the day.  But seriously, while quite crowded in summer, this is one gorgeous beach, with warm water, and a smashing view. And, it is right in the middle of the best part of the city, a five minute walk from our apartment.

All the sunbathers go home, but the beach fills with kids playing in the surf (like mine).  I got them doing 100-meter races up and down the sand (wife has the photos).  Also, the local kids come out to play football. They draw big squares in the sand and play 5-man teams.

oh yes… I remember that beach well Paul. Loved it 15yrs ago and would love to get an address from you regarding your apartment nearby so that I can reserve / rent it for a weekend in September for some much needed R&R.

Ted – we rented from Friendly Rentals (dot com). The apartment was at Calle de Txurruka, 5. Great apartment, no wifi.

Love San Sebastian… great food and nightlife as well as a beautiful beach. I remember my first trip there as a young, 20-something visiting with my French rugby-player boyfriend! Ooooo la la!

    Have fun, Susan
